Shanghai International Circuit

Shanghai, ChinaWIKI

The Shanghai International Circuit has hosted the Chinese Grand Prix since 2004, becoming one of the most technically demanding tracks on the F1 calendar. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the 5.451-kilometer circuit features the distinctive "snail shell" layout with its unique long-radius Turn 1 that challenges drivers' patience and tire management.

The back straight leading into the hairpin at Turn 14 is one of the best overtaking spots in Formula 1, with cars reaching over 340 km/h before heavy braking. The track's surface and layout create high front tire degradation, typically necessitating a 2-stop strategy.

Shanghai holds special significance as the venue for Michael Schumacher's final F1 victory in 2006 and Lewis Hamilton's infamous gravel trap incident in 2007 that allowed Kimi Räikkönen to win the championship.
