Autódromo José Carlos Pace

São Paulo, BrazilWIKI

Autódromo José Carlos Pace, known universally as Interlagos, is South America's spiritual home of motorsport. This 4.309-kilometer circuit in São Paulo runs anti-clockwise through dramatic elevation changes, creating one of F1's most exciting and unpredictable race venues. The track is named after Brazilian racing hero Carlos Pace but forever associated with the legendary Ayrton Senna.

The circuit's unique geography means cars first climb from the start through the famous Senna S before plunging downhill through the lap, losing 30 meters of elevation before the long run back uphill to the start/finish line. This layout, combined with São Paulo's notoriously unpredictable weather, has produced some of F1's greatest races.

Few circuits can match Interlagos for drama: Lewis Hamilton winning the 2008 World Championship on the final corner of the final lap, Max Verstappen's extraordinary 2016 rain masterclass as a teenager, and Hamilton's incredible 2021 charge from the back of the grid with a damaged car. These moments make Brazil one of the calendar's most anticipated events.
